Quest Log of the Selfish Hero Aharon

[NOTICE]

Filed under: Uncategorized — Nikola Novak @ 7:44 am

Due to unexpected expiration of my account at Blizzard, I will not be able to write about Aharon’s adventures in Azeroth, because I do not have access to the character at the moment. I have two accounts there, and the original scheme was to switch between them every 6 months until certain conditions have been met (after which I will activate both). However, these conditions are not met right now, and I had to switch from the account where I have Aharon, to my other account (by ’switch’ I mean the one with Aharon is now inactive, and the other one active).

Until these 6 months have expired, this notice will stay here. You can meet me in Azeroth on Outland’s server. I will be the Female Draenei Hunter called Ygritte, or a Male Human Priest called Stannis. I do not plan on playing other classes, even though I have a level 20 something Female Blood Elf Rogue on another server, but I haven’t played it so long I almost forgot everything about it.

Ygritte is currently level 44 Beast Master and is not-so-widely known for her uniqueness, because she’s hunting solo. By now she has reached Exalted with all the main factions, except Gnomeregan Exiles (I’m lacking quests for this particular faction), and is now working on gaining reputation with Bloodsail Buccaneers. She refuses to do quests which give no reputation with any faction, or which would damage her reputation with Bloodsail Buccaneers. She is soon to be hated throughout the Steamwheedle Cartel, although there are rumours that she is in fact only trying to infiltrate the Bloodsail ranks in order to steal their most prized possessions – a hat and a parrot.

Stannis is a rather pathetic level 70 Shadow Priest, known for his constant whining about his poor equipment (many items he wears are not even rare), reputation (he’s not even exalted with anyone), financial status (he has no gold and can earn only 100 gold per day), and just about anything that could be poor. He is hoping Ygritte would be the hero who would help him with the finances. That’s, in fact, why he’s been so obedient whenever Ygritte needed a potion for her leatherworking experiments. He’d probably be in love with Ygritte too, if he didn’t dread the prospect of his children having hooves like their prospective mother.

In any case, this notice will be removed once the six months have passed. Until then you may contact me through this blog, or you could make a character in my realm and whisper me and tell me you found me through this blog. I know, it’s kind of silly to have to pause the writing of this after so short a time; I really haven’t expected for my subscription to end yet. But no worries, this will continue in 6 months time, be sure of that.

The Awakening of the Hero in me, continued

Filed under: Level Five, World of Warcraft — Nikola Novak @ 5:32 pm

FelendrenIt did not take long for me to get to the top floor of the Academy, where Felendren was stationed. He made his taunts, while I kept silent and focused. I knew that my goal was Righteous, and I was already blessed by Might and Devoted to my task. My blade stroke sure against his, and he finally fell as I brought about his final Judgement. I hacked off his head and jumped off the Academy, falling into the water below. As I returned to Lanthan, he was clearly impressed. He spoke of how I am now able to contribute to the society and said he would pay me by giving me the Sunstrider Shield.

Contribute to society?! He must be mad! If anything, I did not decide to do heroic deeds in order to “contribute to society”. I did not know why he would utter such an insult to someone he valued so highly. Or at least I thought he valued me. Perhaps, however, all he ever saw in me was a pile of muscles that could run errands for him. I threw the shield back in his face for I do not receive payments from those who would sooner or later seek my unquestioning obedience. He seemed bewildered by my reaction, but nonetheless had the dignity to inform me that I might be needed by Outrunner Alarion. I heard him mutter the words “a selfish hero” after I left, still in bewilderment.

OutrunnerI didn’t leave to meet Alarion yet, as I had more pressing matters with Arcanist Helion. He was clearly disturbed when I showed him the Tainted Arcane Sliver and said it was very diligent of me to bring it to him. He also paid me a small fee for my effort. I accepted it graciously and we said our final farewells, as I left to repair my equipment and sell the things again to Raelis Dawnstar. She must be a genius, to be able to buy all this equipment from me and still make a profit! I couldn’t but compliment her for it, but judging by the blush, it seems that this sounded too flirtatious.

Outrunner Alarion was informed of my coming and informed me of the Wretched in the ruins of Silvermoon. She told me that she had sent an Outrunner earlier to deliver Erone’s package to an inn at Falconwing Square, but she never returned. I was to find out whether the package arrived or not, and what happened to that Outrunner. I did not have to go far. The Outrunner in question was lying dead right at the enterance to the Dawning Lane. I found the package on her and brought it back to Alarion, who instructed me to complete the delivery.

The trip along the Dawning Lane didn’t seem as troublesome as the Outrunner’s corpse suggested and I arrived at the inn quite soon and safe. I was given some drink as refreshments. I decided to rest at this inn for the night. Today was an adventurous day. Only yesterday was I just a Blood Elf… a nobody. Now I’m a hero. And tomorrow when I wake up, I’ll be putting on this chainmail I have acquired today, I’ll be excited about new adventures and the day ahead of me, and pleased about myself and the choice I made today that it will give me energy for yet another day of valor.

After this I returned back to Magistrix Erona. She was very pleased with the amount of work I have done to improve the security on Sunstrider Isle. But she also warned me that much more needs to be done still. For this reason, she instructed me to meet Lanthan Perilon, just by the road to the west of there.

Before I go, I decided to pay another visit to my friend, Jesthenis Sunstriker. He was happy to see me and agreed to teach me more. He taught me how to give the Blessing of Might to someone and how to bring Judgement upon the unrighteous. Also, I went back to Raelis Dawnstar, for again I have acquired many items I could not use and I’m quite sure she can do something with them. She took them gladly, and also repaired my equipment for a small fee.

When I finally found Lanthan, he told me about the Falthrien Academy and the Wretched that reside there. Apparently, he will have me bring them to justice, but a little bit later. It seems that he is just as frustrated about the Tenders as I am, for he told me to kill 7 of them, as well as 7 Feral Tenders before sending me to the Academy. I think this could be a little test of skills which I have proudly taken, and I never doubted I would pass as well.

Upon my return, Lanthan rewarded me with a Sunstrider Sword. The sword is much sharper than my Claymore, but it feels awkward in my hand, as I am used to a two-handed sword. But I have decided to use it nonetheless. Anyway, Lanthan now sent me to the Falthrien Academy. I was to kill Arcane Wraiths and slay Felendren the Banished, a Wretched who has succumbed to the use of magic to sate his hunger and never learned control. He is threatenning Sunspire and must be killed.

Upon my arrival to the Academy, I immediately noticed that my magic is weaker against the Wraiths. Still, I was able to slay them with no trouble. Among the remains of one of them, I found Shoddy Chain Pants which were much harder than the leather pants I had, so I put those on. As I ventured deeper into the academy, I found one of the Tainted Arcane Wraiths. I’ve slain it, and found one of those Arcane Slivers on its body. However, this one was different in appearance, as well as in something I can’t quite put my finger on. I immediately thought of taking it to Arcanist Helion*, but now that I was there, I decided I could just as well clean the place out.

After killing some more Wraiths, I felt the surge of power through my body again.

* I’d thought I’d be taking this to Arcanist Ithanas as he was the one giving the quest for Arcane Slivers. However, for some reason unbeknownst to me, the quest is to be handed in to Arcanist Helion.

I have slain many creatures on Sunstrider Isle. As I left Solanian on Sunspire, I started hacking with my Claymore everywhere. I have slain Springpaw Lynxes and their Cubs, more Feral Tenders and several more Mana Wyrms. It seems many of them have seen battle with wannabe heroes, for their remains contained many useful things. I have collected an Unkempt Cloak from one of the Tenders, Shaggy Leather Pants, Gloves, Bracers, and Vest from Springpaws and Mana Wyrms and a Shoddy Chain Belt from another Mana Wyrm. It is sad, though, as I am more used to wearing chainmail than leather armor.

After I was done, I returned to Arcanists Helion and Ithanas. Both were pleased, as Helion gave me new Green Chain Gauntlets as a reward for my diligence in studies, and Ithanas instructed me as to the purpose of the Arcane Slivers. They can be used to regain control on the Isle we once had, as they are remnants of the same. He also gave me a new cloak he called Daylight Cloak, and blessed me with the Fortitude of the Sin’dorei and I left him to his research on the Slivers.

Again I have felt great power coarsing through my body.

Magistrix Erona was pleased with my successful completion of the task she had given me. She had even given me a choice among two rewards. I chose the Green Chain Boots and thanked her.

I decided to rest then, so I found a merchant who was willing to buy the things I have collected during my first quest. Her name is Raelis Dawnstar and she was very happy to take those items off my hands.

So I went to meet some more people, and perhaps see if they have some troubles I could help them with. Erona had said that I should return to her as soon as I’m ready, so I did. She first sent me to a trainer who, according to her, could teach me new skills. I eagerly accepted, and ran to Jesthenis Sunstriker immediately. He welcomed me with a wise counsel and told me I should meet Well Watcher Solanian. Apparently, he could use my help. But I couldn’t leave without Jesthenis teaching me how to create the aura of devotion. By means of pure devotion to my principles, justice and honesty, I can affect the strength of my own armor and the armor of those walking with me. I was very glad I could befriend Jesthenis, for he is in many ways like me. And despite the warnings from Erona, that I have not proven myself worthy yet, I can tell that my friendship with this Blood Elf shall be yet another thing which will keep me on this path of light for times to come.

So I went to see Solanian, as Jesthenis instructed me. Apparently, with all the chaos going on, Solanian left some things at random places on the Isle and I am to retrieve them for him for a reward. He also gave me a small satchel to carry them in. I am to collect his Scrying Orb, the Scroll of Scourge Magic, and his Journal. He also asked me to honor our past by reading the plaque on the shrine of the king who led us here from Kalimdor, Dath’Remar Sunstrider. I agreed because I am always interested in learning more about our past.

On my way out of the Sunspire, I once again met with Erona. She says that the Burning Crystals have affected the Lynx as well and they should be put down. I am to collect their collars and she claims she can then perhaps reverse the effect for some of them.

I have met a rather odd fellow down by the norhtern shore of the isle. His name is Jessel and he’s constantly waking up from his sleep. He seems to be troubled by nightmares and is unable to stay awake very long. In any case, he seems by far stronger than myself and I would not dare face him in battle. But there seems to be more about this guy than I can discern right now.

In any case, I also met Arcanist Ithanas and Helion. Both speak of our innate thirst for magic and have given me errands. Helion even mentioned that if my thirst isn’t sated, I might end up like one of the wretched. I have seen those creatures and I would rather not become like them. Ithanas, on the other hand, told me he’d give me a magic boon after I’m done collecting slivers for him.

I was a little tired from the battle with the Wyrms, so I decided to first read the plaque on the shrine of Dath’Remar. The shrine gave me a strange feeling, as if the troubles on the Isle had suddenly turned into an emotion. I turned quickly and decided to collect Solanian’s belonging next, trying to keep up with all the tasks I was given.

As I approached the fountain, I was attacked by two Tenders. I had to use my healing powers to successfully take them down, but in the end it was worth it. The scroll was right by the fountain. Another Tender attacked me as I was approaching the pond to collect the Orbs. Truly, someone should do something about those trees. As I was attacked by one of the more ferocious Tenders, Feral they are called, I remembered the words of Arcanist Helion, to mana tap the creatures. I did so and I found a sliver on its remains. No tree creature is going to destroy the might of Aharon!

There were no troubles while I collected the journal, so after that I immediately returned to Solanian. He thanked me and rewarded me beyond my expectations. I received a leather belt for belongings I’ve collected for him, as well as the satchel and a small sum of coins. As for the strange sensation I had while reading the plaque, he confirmed what I thought about it. It must be connected by the disturbance on the Sunstrider Isle. He had no more tasks for me, so we said our farewells, which was when I felt the strong surge of power through my entire body again. I felt invigorated for new conquests and new battles.

The Awakening of the Hero in me

AharonI am not sure what it is in a living being, a Blood Elf if you will, such as myself that makes it possible for us to do great things. I know, however, that today is the day which is different than the day before. I am different as well. As I woke up in the morning I realized that I had not just awaken from a night’s sleep. The whole of my life until this morning now seems like one long, long dream. I remember things from my past and they are just events; things that have happened and now are forgotten or will soon be; just like those from a dream.

I realize I have awaken in many ways. As I rose from my mattress, I knew the life of unlimited choices was out there. It’s as if I was touched by some invisible hand and it gave me wisdom to realize that all I needed to do was to make those choices, and the courage to act on them. Immediately I knew what my first choice would be. I would appear before Magistrix Erona and seek out her guidance.

But once I got there, I realized I had no hero name. Every hero I know of has a glorious name. Mine just couldn’t live up to that. So I have fashioned myself a new name. The name is Aharon. Exalted, or so they say it means, in a tongue that is foreign to this world.

My calling would be the noblest of all. I shall fight for the light and the light shall be my guide.

For all my measly life savings, I was given some basic equipment and I was taught some useful skills in my future quests. My skills have immediately been put to the test.

It’s no wonder, the whole of Sunstrider Isle is gone wild. The Mana Wyrms, the guardians of the Burning Crystals, have been driven errant by the Scourge invasion of Quel’Thalas and we have no choice but to thin their numbers if we are ever to reclaim the Isle. I was assigned this task by Magistrix Erona as soon as I approached her. This was my first test of worth and skill as a hero.

As I was slaying the Mana Wyrms, I could feel myself becoming more and more powerful. That huge Claymore which has seen more battles than myself felt lighter with each strike. I’ve taken from their corpses whatever I could find that had some value. I suppose their scales could be used for something, and I have also collected several eyes that I haven’t smashed with my Claymore. But not until I have slain the last of the Wyrms that Erona told me to kill, have I felt the powerful surge through the whole of my body. It was not pain. It was like yet another world had opened before my eyes as I felt myself becoming stronger.
